Ideal Weight Calculator
Find your ideal weight based on height and gender
What Is Ideal Body Weight?
Ideal body weight (IBW) is an estimate of the optimal weight for an individual based on height and gender. Several medical formulas have been developed over the years — including Robinson, Miller, Devine, and Hamwi — each using a different base weight and adjustment per inch. These formulas were originally developed for clinical dosing of medication and have since been adapted as general reference ranges.
This calculator averages the results of all four formulas to give you a single reference point, and also displays each formula individually so you can see the range of estimates. In addition, it shows the BMI-based healthy weight range (BMI 18.5–24.9) for your height, which is the most widely accepted standard for assessing healthy body weight.
Keep in mind that ideal weight formulas do not account for body composition, muscle mass, bone density, or individual variation. Two people of the same height and gender can have very different healthy weights depending on their frame size and muscle-to-fat ratio. Use these numbers as a general reference rather than a strict target.
